Literature Text

The next time Malcolm found her, it was with an entirely different book in her hands. He gawked at the demonology tome she had hidden behind her textbook in class, and he wondered what made her switch magical subjects. Is it my fault? The idea was highly unlikely, considering both types of magic were rarely studied in the school. Maybe she's just an oddball. Or a psychopathic killer.

The teacher had revealed her name to him when he was doing attendance, so he now knew how to grab her attention. "Psst," he hissed, glancing at the blackboard that the instructor was writing on. "Alex!"

She lowered her books and glanced around in confusion, as if she didn't think anyone would be trying to get her attention. When she noticed him waving at her a few seats back, her expression immediately closed, and she picked up her book again to continue examining what looked like a diagram for a ritual.

Cursing under his breath, Malcolm picked up his pen and tossed it at her, grinning triumphantly when it smacked her elbow and caused her to jump. Nearly snapping the book shut, she turned in her seat to glare at him before taking the pen and pointedly tucking it beside her notebook. He realized his folly when he looked down at his empty desk. Uh-oh. With nothing to write with, he had to lean over and bug his friend Reggie for a writing utensil, and he glared at her back as she continued ignoring the teacher.

When class was dismissed, he intercepted her on her way out and grumbled, "Can I have my pen back?"

She tilted her head slightly, feigning innocence. "What pen? Oh." She pulled it out of her pocket, asking calmly, "Do you mean the one that some immature boy threw at me earlier?"

He rolled his eyes. Says the girl who was obviously ignoring me. "I was only trying to get your attention." When she mimicked the gesture, he motioned towards the book tucked underneath her arm and asked, "What happened to the other book you were reading? Did you finish it?"

Again, she grew uneasy at his questioning, and his suspicion heightened considerably when she quickly answered, "I returned it." Glancing around them as the students filed out of the classroom, she tightened her grip on the book and shoved past him with an irritated, "Excuse me."

He let her escape again only because he wasn't sure he wanted to follow her.
All I ask is that you don't automatically compare it to Harry Potter. I know the movie franchise just ended and everyone is being nostalgic about it, but this story idea came to me in a dream without any HP references whatsoever, and it wasn't written with HP in mind.

Again, this is NOT Harry Potter. This is my own idea. I'm serious as a heart attack right now. I hate being compared to other book series just because they're popular at the time.

Also, don't share this with anyone else without giving credit, please. It's bad enough that it's floating around the internet now.

Huh, how...oddly obsessive of our male lead. Also vastly more immature than just ignoring someone, really.
